Bismillah! NO!

5:07 PM: Bohemian Rhapsody  blaring in from Friendly Avenue.  Lovely!

Lack of posts…

Nikki @ 8:46 pm

It’s not that it’s been quiet… people have too much damn courtesy these days and refuse to turn up their music. However, we were out on the front porch with friends tonight and heard this little gem:

6/10, 8:30 PM: “Buddy” by Musiq Soulchild

Everybody needs a “buddy”.

We’re having a good night!

Drunk college student, 9:00 PM: “Hey (unintelligible) Robinson! Do you have a scale? …. A scaaaaaaaale?”

3 seconds…

Nikki @ 9:17 pm

Okay, maybe 5, but that’s all it took to recognize Beyonce’s “Irreplaceable” from a passing car at about 9:00 PM.  You must not know bout her.

I’m sad that I can pick out that song from half a line.  I listen to it too often at work (and I like it, dammit, I do).

Overheard…

Nikki @ 2:05 pm

5/23, 11:45 PM: Some wailing ovary howling away.  I have no idea what song or band it was, and I don’t want to know.

5/24, 12:01 PM: Loudest.  Motorcycle.  Ever.

*I’ve been informed by my friend Aisha that the song I posted about yesterday may have been “It’s Me, Bitches!” by Swizz Beats.  Swizz Beats, y’all.

Overheard at Friendly and Mendenhall

Nikki @ 4:06 pm

Here begins the blogging of the wonderful music, traffic, and witty drunken conversations overheard from my bedroom window right at the corner of Friendly and Mendenhall.

5/22, 9 PM: Doobie Brothers- Jesus Is Just Alright (with meeee, Jesus is just allllriiiiiight)

5/22, 11 PM: Unidentifiable hip-hop.  Car-shaking bass-thumpin’ crazy loud unidentifiable hip-hop.  May have heard the word “bitches”… not sure.

I can’t decide which musical selection of the evening is my favorite.

The Season Begins

dan @ 1:04 pm

Ah… The students are back in town, and with them the car wrecks.

Screeee–crash.

The driver of the Cherokee jumped out of the car and ran over to the drivers’ window of the Saturn. He screamed, “What am I going to do now? I don’t have another car!”

Pretty soon the dorm across the street has emptied and the corner is full of gawpers. Two students take charge of things (while I ghoulishly take photos). Before long our local authorities are on the scene.

When Cherokee moves out of traffic, it’s clear that something inside the fender has crushed against the tire. He gets out with a crowbar and starts making delicate manual adjustments. Bang-bang-BANG style adjustments.

Here’s the Saturn. I wasn’t watching exactly, but it sort of looks like she ran the red and got clobberred.

Idyllic Peace Shattered

This morning the blissful reverie that has been the corner of Friendly and Mendenhall was shattered by an ear-shattering jackhammering noise. “What the hell is that!?” I cried, snagging my camera and lunging out the door.

I was greeted by the sight of a destruction crew, systematically destroying my street.

UPDATE: The destruction has ended and the reconstruction begins…

All Quiet at Friendly and Mendenhall

dan @ 10:26 am

Just a post to let you know I’m still alive. There haven’t been any traffic incidents (at least, not while I’ve been home) in the last few weeks, but I’ve got my ears cocked for any excitement, and I’ll blog it the minute it happens.
